He began his career in 1976 as an Assistant Manager with Sizzler Family Steakhouse in Huntsville, Alabama. Thereafter he worked in a number of core financial service functions which included Financial Control Systems Coordinator with the Compass Bank, Alabama; Senior Staff Accountant with Colonial Bank of South Alabama, Accounting and Finance Manager with Huntsville United Research and Technology Inc. Alabama, Examiner with the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and Supervisory Financial Analyst with the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, Washington D.C.

He graduated from Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University in Huntsville, Alabama with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. He also holds an MBA with concentration in Finance from the same University. Chukwu is a certified public accountant and a Commissioned Bank Examiner with the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, Washington, USA.
